I have a Dell server with a valid licensed copy of Windows Server 2016 install on it. Is Windows Server license lost if I reinstall from new media, on same hardware? Windows.Access is not capable of manifesting an ideal UI, but compared to what is normally rendered in a browser, it can be compact and efficient, especially for "complex beasts". Sometimes they conversions are never completed, and sometimes they are but the end users are unhappy with the result. I have seen some companies attempt to move complex apps away from Access and depending on many factors they can end up spending much more money than they expected. It would almost have to be much less expensive to keep it in Access after porting the data to sql server. I would become very familiar with the applications and see if they need to be structurally realigned. Often reports of an app being 'broken' - ie hard to use or obscure - come down to awkward data structures. ![]() Porting to sql server may give you a chance to adjust the schema, depending on budget etc. I might also take the opportunity to evaluate the data structure of the applications. I would try to solve the issues reported as 'broken' by the end users which you say are mostly due to a less than ideal front end. Unless there are mitigating factors, I'd think moving the data to sql server and reworking the front end in Access would be a productive path forward. Web development is much less direct and to reproduce complex applications, you often end up with a much larger technical challenge as well as an inferior user interface. With Access + SQL Server you have so many ways to arrive at a solution - there's a lot of flexibility there. As long as you don't need it deployed in a browser, Access + SQL Server is an extremely efficient pairing. If the applications are complex, as you state, and there is no compelling reason to move off platform (ie away from Access), I would normally recommend staying with an Access front end. Many of my Access applications are used in conjunction with remote desktop. My viewpoint is that of a consultant that creates database applications in both Access (usually sql server backend) and for the web/browser. ![]()
